Liverpool target Steve Mandanda has come out to tell the Marseille fans that he will not be leaving in the January window, Express reports.
The 30-year-old emerged as a potential goalkeeping target for the Reds as manager Jurgen Klopp looks to provide current pair Simon Mignolet and Adam Bogdan with some competition.
First choice Mignolet has been criticised in recent months for his performance so far this season, with some of the fans urging the club to replace him.
However, Mandanda, who will see his contract expire at the end of the campaign, has admitted that he will only leave the Ligue 1 side in the summer.
“Out of respect for the Marseille fans, I decided to get out of my silence about my future. I hear a lot of things in the press about me, but this is what it really is,” he said.
“My agent has received proposals from various clubs to leave as soon as January. These proposals we have studied, I’ve weighed the pros and cons of what is best for me. And that’s what is clear: I’ve decided to stay at Olympique de Marseille until the end of this season.”
The club captain was recently linked with a £2.95million move to Anfield, while fellow Premier League side Aston Villa are also monitoring his situation.
He has already played over 400 matches for his current club, but unless he agrees an extension, he is likely to leave in the summer window.
