Aston Villa star Christian Benteke is set to miss a friendly against Sporting Braga on Friday in order to complete his move to Liverpool, according to reports from the Mirror.
Benteke has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield the past few weeks, with Manchester United also keen on the Belgium international.
However, interested parties were reluctant to pay Benteke’s massive release clause which was set at £32.5million.
But after the £49million sale of Raheem Sterling to Manchester City, Liverpool now have the funds to bring the striker to Merseyside.
The expected move will be the second most expensive signing in the Reds’ history after Andy Carroll’s £35million arrival back in 2012.
Liverpool have been extremely active in the summer transfer market, signing the likes of Danny Ings, James Milner, Nathaniel Clyne, and Roberto Firmino.
Benteke was in brilliant form for Villa during the tail end of last season, scoring 12 goals in his last 12 games.
