Liverpool are ready to win the race to sign highly rated Porto midfielder Ruben Neves according to Metro, beating Chelsea to the starlet’s acquisition in the process.
The 18-year-old has propelled himself into the public limelight over the last year with some star performances for the Estadio do Dragao outfit and Portugal under-21’s.
Neves was a chief protagonist in Porto’s 2-1 win over Chelsea in the Champions League earlier this season and is widely regarded as one of the brightest prospects in European football.
Jose Mourinho was believed to be keen to raid his former club to land the teenager with a bright future, but faces stiff competition to sign the youngster from both English and European rivals.
However, with Jurgen Klopp taking over at Anfield, the Reds are ambitious to go toe-to-toe with the Premier League’s best, with Neves’ potential signing a real statement of intent.
