Liverpool to break transfer record in race to sign Arsenal midfield target

Liverpool are ready to break their £35million transfer record in hopes of signing Arsenal target Granit Xhaka from Borussia Monchengladbach, according to Bild, as reported by the Daily Star.

The 23-year-old is also being linked with a switch to join the Gunners as manager Arsene Wenger looks to reinforce his options in midfield.

Wenger has already sent scouts to monitor his displays, but could be halted by a record breaking offer from the Anfield club.

The £35million transfer of former striker Andy Carroll from Newcastle United is the current transfer record set by the Reds, but they are now plotting an offer worth £37million for Xhaka.

His father and agent, Ragip Xhaka, has also hinted that a move could happen given interest from a number of clubs.

“At the moment I prefer not to say too much,” he said.

“We’ll see what happens. I can say that several big clubs are interested.

“Everything is possible, we’re not ruling anything out.”

Klopp is desperate to add more players into his squad given their recent injury crisis that has now seen a host of first team players unavailable for selection.
