Liverpool to offer Balotelli as bait for former Arsenal target

Despite reports that Mario Balotelli will be given one more chance to save his Liverpool career, the Daily Mail are reporting that the former Manchester City striker could be used a makeweight in any potential move Brendan Rodgers might make for Napoli’s Gonzalo Higuain.

Liverpool have been widely tipped to make some January signings in the final third following the shortcomings of Fabio Borini, Rickie Lambert and Mario Balotelli, and with Higuain having bagged 115 goals in all competitions for club and country since 2009, the appeal of the former Real Madrid striker is obvious.

Whether Napoli, managed by former Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez, would sell their £30million-rated striker remains to be seen, however, the Serie A side were linked with a move for the former Inter Milan striker in the summer before he joined the Reds in a £16million move from AC Milan.

Higuain was widely expected to join Arsenal from Real Madrid last summer before Napoli blew the Gunners out of the water with their late bid.
