The Bosnian ‘keeper had reportedly told journalists that he would join the Merseyside club on their pre-season tour of Australia.
But the Potters have instantly denied the rumours, reiterating that Begovic is going nowhere.
“Asmir’s agent rang me as soon as these stories surfaced. He assures me that Asmir doesn’t know the Bosnian journalist and has certainly never spoken to him.” said Stoke chief executive Tony Scholes, speaking to the Liverpool Echo.
“It’s complete fabrication and unfortunately it has been picked up by a paper in this country.”
Begovic has been tipped to be a replacement for Pepe Reina, who has been linked with a move back to Barcelona.
But Stoke have denied all reports of the Bosnian goalkeeper leaving the club, who sacked Tony Pulis earlier this week.
