Liverpool weigh up Championship swoop

Liverpool Assistant Manager Sammy LeeLiverpool are set to make a £2.5million bid for Preston North End’s Adam Barton, following a series of scouting trips which have impressed the Academy – according to the Daily Mail.

The Reds have monitored Barton’s situation all season, and assistant manager Sammy Lee went to watch the 20-year-old last Saturday when the youngster helped recover a point against QPR.

Barton is a product of the Blackburn youth system, but was released at the age of sixteen following a back problem, but was awarded a youth scholarship at Preston and has prospered ever since.

He signed a two-and-a-half year deal with the club back in December 2008.
