Liverpool weighing up summer move for Blues ace

Birmingham City’s instrumental central defender Roger Johnson has been singled out as a Liverpool target by their Director of Football Damien Comolli.

The reports in The Daily Mail suggest The Reds are keeping tabs on Johnson, whose current club Birmingham, are in the midst of a relegation battle. The player has refused to comment on his future or about the speculation linking him to a summer move to Anfield.

Johnson has been a revelation for The Blues since he made his £5 million move from Cardiff City back in 2009. The courageous defender was also a major factor in Birmingham’s Carling Cup victory over Arsenal earlier this year.

Therefore, it was inevitable that with only a year remaining on his current deal and with the St Andrews club’s Premier League status still in the balance that Johnson’s future was going to come into question.

Kenny Dalglish will see him as a natural long term replacement for Jamie Carragher, and his grit and determination would add steel to the Liverpool defence.

Liverpool and Birmingham go head to head this weekend and it’s likely that Johnson’s performance will be under close scrutiny from Liverpool’s watching eyes.
