Liverpool youngster claims captain is the reason behind fine form

Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling has heaped praise on club captain Steven Gerrard for helping him progress this season, as reported by the Daily Mail.

Sterling has been one of the top performers not only in the Liverpool side but the league as a whole this season, leaving him as a certainty to go to the World Cup this summer with England.

His captain this summer will once again be Gerrard and it is the born and bred Liverpool man that has been the inspiration behind Sterling’s form.

The 19 year old is playing without fear and he believes Rodgers and Gerrard have made that possible with their tactics and leadership.

‘When players like Stevie are telling you to go out there and try to create something and the defensive side of the team will worry about any mistakes, for someone like that to have belief in you and tell you to go out there and create, that gives you even more of a buzz,’ Sterling said to

‘He’s telling you he believes in you personally and the team believes in you. It’s a good all-round thing with everyone having belief in each other and working for each other.

‘It’s working as we all wanted it to work. Every day I am learning with the players here – players like Philippe [Coutinho] in the No.10 role.’
