FanCast guest columnist George Breen feels that Rafa should look
to Heinze to fill their left back void.
Real Madrid is certainly never a dull place
and it's fair to say they have had their fair few fun and games, since the end
of the last season. We had the Robinho dispute, the long running saga of
Cristiano Ronaldo, which has done little but drive a wedge between Coach Bernd
Schuster and Chairman Roman Calderon.
It's a complete mess quite frankly and every
other day there are suggestions that the German will quit or that Madrid have a
list of candidates lined up, ready to take the helm. It's fair to say that it is
not a happy club at present and that is why I feel Rafa should look to capitalise
on the unrest and uncertainty and look to move in on full back Gabriel Heinze.
We are crying out for a left back as we all
know, as Dossena and Aurelio are not up to the task and for me the Argentinean
is the perfect fit. Of course it was widely reported at the time that Sir Alex
Ferguson was instrumental in preventing Gabby joining Liverpool, after falling
out with Heinze back in the summer of 2007, but the sour face Scot can have no
influence now and I believe Benitez will be crazy to pass up the opportunity
We have been linked to a plethora of left
backs in the past few weeks like Gareth Bale, Wayne Bridge and alike, but
neither will bring that big game experience and calming influence we need,
quite like Heinze. At the age of 30 there is no question that Rafa will
certainly be able to pick the Argentine up for a small fee in comparison to
other targets linked and with money in short supply, only have to pay up in the
region of £4m, will only add to the appeal.
Would Heinze be a welcome addition to
Anfield, or would you prefer to see Rafa move for someone else?
