Liverpool’s injury boost ahead of Xmas period

Steven Gerrard’s recovery from an ankle injury is going as planned, and the Liverpool talisman could make a return to the side for the Boxing Day clash against Blackburn.

The England international has had a frustrating 2011, firstly being sidelined for six months with a groin injury, and then picking up an ankle knock, which became infected.

However Kenny Dalglish has stated that Gerrard is on the verge of making a return and that he is desperate to get back to action.

“If it wasn’t dealt with properly, it could have been more serious. But he had fantastic treatment. It’s been sorted, it’s been solved,” Dalglish told Mirror Football.

“It was a one-off, not relevant to anything else he’s had, so the credit goes to the people who identified the problem. The hard part was when he was first injured. It was just a freak.

“He’s done unbelievably well. He does have a really strong character. He’s come through and he’s desperate to play,” the Scottish coach concluded.

Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Aston Villa at the weekend lifted them up to sixth place in the table, equal on 29 points with Arsenal.
