Romelu Lukaku has said that he ‘cannot wait to run out at Old Trafford’ after being confirmed as Manchester United player on Monday afternoon.
Lukaku, 24, underwent a medical with the Red Devils at the weekend, but it took until the start of this week for the English giants to confirm the move.
It is understood that Man United have paid Everton a fee of £75m for the services of the centre-forward, although that figure could rise based on various clauses.
Lukaku, in his first official interview after being confirmed as a Man United player, thanked Everton ‘for the last four wonderful seasons’, but the striker has admitted that he could not turn down the chance to make the move to the Theatre of Dreams.
Lukaku told Man United’s official website:
“I would like to start by thanking Everton and the fans for the last four wonderful seasons, I have made some special friends and we have shared some amazing moments.
“However, when Manchester United and Jose Mourinho come knocking at the door it is an opportunity of a lifetime and one that I could not turn down. You could see the fight, determination and the spirit in this team during the Europa League final and I want to become a part of that.
“I cannot wait to run out at Old Trafford in front of 75,000 fans but before that pre-season is where the hard work starts and I am looking forward to that first training session.”
Lukaku’s first appearance in a Man United shirt could be on July 15, when Jose Mourinho’s side open their pre-season tour of the United States against Los Angeles Galaxy.
The tour of North America will also see the 20-time English champions take on Manchester City, Real Madrid and Barcelona as the club builds towards the start of the new campaign.
