Major Liverpool target tells club he wants to leave

Liverpool target Alex Teixeira has revealed that he has told Shakhtar Donetsk that he wants to leave the club this month.

The Reds have been linked with a move for the free-scoring Brazilian, who has netted 22 goals in 15 games this season for the Ukrainian outfit.

The Merseyside club are thought to be leading the race for his signature, although Chelsea are also being linked with the versatile South American attacker.

Teixeira has stated that he has told his employers that his future is away from the club and that he is hoping to leave this month.

“I would like to move in this transfer window and have told them [Shakhtar] that,” the Brazilian told Globo Esporte, translated into English by The Guardian.

“They have received a very good offer and they are working on a solution. But if I don’t go now then I will leave in the summer.

“After six years in Europe and with Shakhtar we are ready to move and I have spoken to my wife and daughter.”

Liverpool have some work to do in the final third, with Christian Benteke struggling to make an impression so far following a summer move from Aston Villa.

The Merseyside outfit won a dramatic nine-goal thriller 5-4 against Norwich yesterday and are expected to add at least one new face to Jurgen Klopp’s contingent before the current transfer window closes.
