Man City ace believes European blow will boost title hopes

Manchester City midfielder Samir Nasri believes that his side’s Champions League exit at the hands of Barcelona will benefit their charge for the Premier League title.

The Sky Blues slipped out of European competition at the hands of the reigning La Liga champions, losing both legs of their last 16 clash en route to a 4-1 aggregate scoreline.

The loss came on the back of a shock FA Cup exit at the hands of second tier Wigan, leaving City battling to add the league title to their Capital One Cup win from earlier this month just a matter of weeks after the quadruple was being talked up.

Due to their cup exploits, Manuel Pellegrini’s men have three games in hand on leaders Chelsea, but they must claim maximum points if they are to leapfrog the Londoners – and then it will only be on goal difference.

Nasri – who has been in great form of late – believes that his side were unfortunate to lose to Barca and that the disappointment can be channelled into their league push:

“I think we played a good game. I think we did everything we could.” He is quoted by The Express.

“We can have regrets about the first leg – it is in the first leg we lost it – but here we did everything.

“I think this defeat is going to be good for us in the future.

“This is where you get experience and get much stronger as a team and a group.

“Now our target is to win the league.”
