Manchester City and Liverpool could miss out on midfield target Javier Pastore, as he is set to sign a new deal with Paris Saint-Germain, according to reports from Talksport.
The 25-year-old will see his current contract expire next year, with his club already urging him to extend his stay in Ligue-1.
City manager Manuel Pellegrini as well as Brendan Rodgers were both interested in luring the Argentine to reinforce their midfields, with the hopes of signing him for a cut-price deal due to his expiring contract.
This is now unlikely to happen, as Pastore is said to be ready to begin talks over a new deal to keep him at the Parc des Princes.
He has featured in 22 out of 26 league games for his side, netting two goals and providing five assists so far this season.
The club signed him back in 2011 for a fee of £30million while he was being linked with a possible move to both City and the Reds for an estimated £25million fee.
