Manchester City and Manchester United target Diego Godin is on the verge of penning a new deal with Atletico Madrid, according to reports from the Express.
The 29-year-old emerged as a defensive candidate for the two Premier League giants following his impressive form for both the Uruguayan national team as well as his club.
City were said to be ready to trigger his £28million release clause and offer him a mega deal to lure him to the Etihad.
However, with Godin refusing to enter talks with the Manchester club, he is now likely to extend his stay with Atletico amid speculation that he has already been offered a new contract.
The centre-back is said to have been given a pay rise as well as a further one year-extension on his current deal which would see him remain with the club until at least 2019.
He has been a key member for manager Diego Simeone over the past few seasons and has featured 48 times in all competitions for his side last term, scoring three goals.
