Manchester City are Lionel Messi’s first choice option if he ever considered leaving Barcelona in the future, according to reports from the Mirror.
City have been heavily linked with a move for Messi in the past, but at every occasion the Argentina legend has snubbed any potential exit from the Nou Camp.
However, Messi and his entourage have promised the Sky Blues that if he was to leave the European champions for a new challenge, they would be the club he would choose to join because of City’s sporting director Txiki Begiristain and chief executive Ferran Soriano.
The 28-year-old has a close relationship with Begiristain and Soriano from their time working together at Barca previously, and the two will be key if Messi is ever a Citizen.
The four-time Ballon D’or winner won’t come cheap though, with a £500,000-a-week salary after tax set to be the price for his services.
City are also favourites to land any departing Barcelona stars in the summer, with former boss Pep Guardiola replacing Manuel Pellegrini at the Etihad helm at the end of the season.
