Manchester City’s Bacara Sagna has backed struggling team-mate Eliaquim Mangala to be a great at the club one day and stated that the centre-half is working hard to stamp out costly errors.
The France international was signed last summer from Porto but has had an inconsistent time of it at the Etihad Stadium.
Mangala has been culpable for a number of conceded goals in his time in England, with a loose pass against Arsenal recently resulting in a goal that eventually cost City the game.
Sagna has stated that his compatriot is a top-class player that is doing everything in his power to improve and will be a real asset for City in the future.
“Most of the time you forget he only came last season to this league,” The Telegraph quote the full-back as saying.
“This league is difficult, especially when you come from abroad you need time to adapt. I think he is doing quite well.
“He’s going to be a great defender one day. Now we just have to be patient. He did well against Sunderland, he demonstrated he can be decisive defensively. It’s just about confidence. He’s still young, and he’s going to improve a lot.”
With Vincent Kompany picking up another debilitating injury, Manuel Pellegrini’s men will be forced to rely on Mangala once more.
The title-chasing side take on Leicester in a mouth-watering top of the table clash tomorrow night.
