Manchester City are looking to sign Manchester United target Nicolas Otamendi once they finalize their deal for Wolfsburg star Kevin de Bruyne, according to reports from the Mirror.
Otamendi has been heavily linked with a move away from Valencia in recent weeks, with Man United thought to be front-runners for his signature.
But, the Red Devils are set to face some competition from their city rivals, with the Sky Blues also keen on reinforcing their back-line.
The Citizens are, however, hoping to complete the transfer of De Bruyne before they pursue Otamendi following a £47million bid they submitted to Wolfsburg earlier this week.
They are ready to make the Belgian one of the highest paid players at the club, with a £200,000-a-week 6-year contract reportedly in the works.
The two Manchester clubs both got off to a good start in the Premier League, with United beating Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 while City brushed aside West Bromwich Albion 3-0.
