Manchester City are set to frustrate Manchester United by making a move to sign Juan Cuadrado from Fiorentina as they prepare to trigger his £28million release clause, Express reports.
Louis van Gaal is said to have been monitoring the 26-year-old right winger who is also capable of playing as a wing back in order to give Rafael some friendly competition in the role.
However, with United’s board hinting that their January funds may be limited, City will take the opportunity to make an attempt to sign Cuadrado as they believe they can avoid a bidding war.
Despite recently signing a deal to remain in the Serie A, the Colombian is believed to feel unsettled at the club and could still be open to a Premier League switch.
The interest from City will be seen as a huge blow for Van Gaal as his struggling defence is yet to pick up any kind of form and with Rafael constantly getting injured, he desperately needs extra reinforcements.
