Manchester City star Fernandinho has hit out at Chelsea ace Diego Costa for being a troublemaker after the two clubs clashed during the weekend, Mirror reports.
Costa went to confront Fernandinho at half-time after the Brazilian hit the striker with an elbow earlier and had to be pulled back by his team-mates as the two sides headed down into the tunnel.
Fernandinho had already received a yellow card after leaving Costa bloodied and bandaged, but now the defensive midfielder has spoken his views over the incident.
“He is always trying to offend the opposition, but I keep calm and keep playing,” Fernandinho said.
“I just didn’t want to fight or have any confrontation and just to play for my team.
“It was an accident and the nature of the game. It was a shock and I received a yellow card.
“It happens in football.”
This is not the first time that Costa has been involved in controversy, as last season he was accused of purposely stamping on Liverpool’s Emre Can and thus banned for three matches.
The Spain international also had a confrontation with now Reds captain Jordan Henderson in the tunnel, as well as clashing with Everton’s Tim Howard after the striker taunted Seamus Coleman for scoring an own goal.
City were ultimately too strong for the champions, crushing Jose Mourinho’s men 3-0 at the Etihad.
