Manchester City star Vincent Kompany has revealed his delight after manager Manuel Pellegrini was handed a new contract extension, according to reports from the Daily Star.
The 61-year-old was heavily tipped to be replaced during the summer after a below par performance from his side last term.
Pellegrini was criticised last season for his team’s inability to pick up any trophies as they were also knocked out of the Champions League in the round of 16.
City were believed to have made current Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola their first choice candidate to fill the role, but the Spaniard eventually decided to stay until his contract came to an end.
Kompany admitted that their decision to keep their manager unchanged looks to have played a part in their recent run of form.
They are currently top of the league having won all of their five fixtures and are yet to concede a single goal this term.
