Manchester City are plotting a move to beat Chelsea to the signing of Leonardo Bonucci from Juventus before the opening of the summer window, Express reports.
The 28-year-old has been linked with both clubs in recent months, but incoming City manager Pep Guardiola is hoping he can open talks as soon as he arrives.
Blues-linked boss Antonio Conte is also keen to add the Italy international into his ranks should he be given the managerial job at Stamford Bridge at the end of the current campaign.
Guardiola is known to be a big admirer of the centre-back, but face stiff competition from Conte, who has worked with him during his time at Juve and is currently manager of the Italy national team.
He is tied down on a deal with the Serie A champions until 2020, but could part ways with the club if City table an offer around the £25million region.
Bonucci has already featured 40 times in all competitions for his side this term, so far managing to score two goals while providing another one assist.
