Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has refused a loan offer from Newcastle United for back-up goalkeeper Victor Valdes, Mirror reports.
The 34-year-old fell out with Van Gaal back in the summer after refusing to play for the Under-21 squad, a decision that resulted in him being dropped from the senior team altogether.
The former Barcelona number-one is now being forced to train on his own and has not even been given a squad number for the current European campaign, with the Dutchman ready to let him play out his contract.
Valdes was keen to leave Old Trafford amid interest from the Magpies, as first-choice keeper Tim Krul has been ruled out for the remainder of the campaign with a cruciate knee ligament injury.
However, Valdes has not even been given a role on the bench, with Van Gaal recently recalling loanee Sam Johnstone from Championship side Preston to fill the role as back-up ahead of the ex-Spain international.
