Manchester United are adamant that star goalkeeper David de Gea will be part of manager Louis van Gaal’s plans once again despite his collapsed transfer to Real Madrid, according to reports from the Independent.
De Gea was expected to leave Old Trafford to the Santiago Bernabeu after the two clubs reportedly agreed on £29million fee, but the switch fell through after Real failed to register the transfer in time due to late paperwork.
Both parties have been unwilling to admit they’re at fault, and the Spain international will definitely stay in Manchester to see out the final year of his contract.
And although many think Van Gaal is reluctant to deploy De Gea as his first-choice goalkeeper, United believe that their relationship will be fixed sooner rather than later and could be back in goal to face Liverpool.
The Red Devils can point to the fact that they’ve persuaded players to stay for an extra year before, with Cristiano Ronaldo doing the same and Wayne Rooney convinced to not join Chelsea two years ago.
