Manchester United have been boosted in their efforts to sign Atletico Madrid star Saul Niguez after he rejected a new contract extension, The Sun reports.
The 21-year-old was the subject of a £15million bid during the January window after being tracked by the club for the past few months in attempts to reinforce their ranks.
Niguez rejected the chance to extend his stay following speculation that he shares a strained relationship with the club and could instead look for a challenge elsewhere.
However, United won’t be able to agree any sort of free transfer with the midfielder given that he is still tied down on a contract until 2020.
The Spain Under-21 star also has his release clause set at £34million as the previous bid for his services from the Red Devils was way off the mark.
He has already featured 31 times in all competitions this term, so far managing to score six goals while providing another two assists.
