Manchester United could fail to appoint managerial target Jose Mourinho as Real Madrid looks to give him another chance at the Bernabeu, Mirror reports.
The former Chelsea boss has been heavily linked to replace Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford in the summer.
United are yet to decide on his future after the Dutchman managed to pick up a string of positive results as they continue to battle for a top four spot.
However, with Real struggling to perform this season, club president Florentino Perez is believed to be considering a move to bring back Mourinho if Zinedine Zidane fails to lead them to Champions League glory.
The France legend saw his side suffer a shock 2-0 defeat in the quarter-finals first leg away to Bundesliga side Wolfsburg and could get eliminated next week if the result of their home tie fails to go their way.
Mourinho is also unsure over his future despite speculation that he has verbally agreed a deal with the Red Devils over a potential management role next term.
