Manchester United and Arsenal target Benedikt Howedes has rejected two offers in favour of remaining at Schalke 04, Express reports.
The 27-year-old became a target for both clubs as the Premier League pair were looking to reinforce their defence with a new centre-back.
He was on the verge of an exit due to a £12million release clause in his contract, but because it expired at the start of the week, the Bundesliga giants are back in control of his future.
Schalke boss, Horst Heldt, admitted that there were incoming offers for Howedes, but the Germany international snubbed an exit in order to continue his stay.
“He had two offers from abroad. We are happy he decided to keep on playing for Schalke,” he said.
The defender has been a vital member for his squad this term, registering 34 starts in all competitions, while being able to score scoring three goals in the process.
In addition to Howedes, the two clubs were also considering a move for Borussia Dortmund star Mats Hummels, but he is now being tipped to remain in the German top flight as well.
