Aston Villa are demanding at least £12million for defender Ron Vlaar, who is being targeted by Manchester United and Arsenal, Express reports.
Vlaar is in the final year of his Villa contract but the Dutch international insists he would like to extend his deal, which means long-term admirers Man United could make a big offer this January.
The centre-back played under Man United boss Louis van Gaal for the Netherlands in the World Cup, and the former Bayern Munich boss is hoping to use that relationship to lure the centre-back to Old Trafford.
The Red Devils are currently in a defensive injury crisis and the addition of Vlaar will be a great boost to Louis van Gaal’s side.
Vlaar will also be significantly cheaper than United’s other summer signings, in which the club spent over £150million in the transfer market.
United will however need to be vary of Arsenal’s interest in the 29-year-old, due to the Gunners’ very own injury crisis.
Vlaar moved from Feyenoord to Aston Villa back in the summer of 2012, going on to make 63 league appearances for the Midlands club.
