Manchester United and Chelsea have been urged to reconsider their move for Sami Khedira by Germany legend Franz Beckenbauer, according to reports from the Daily Star.
The 27-year-old is being tipped towards an exit from Real Madrid in the summer, but due to his lack of playing time, he may not be the player he once was.
When Beckenbauer was asked about Khedira, who was linked with a move to Schalke, he said that the German midfielder is lacking in his ability.
“At the moment, he’s lacking in everything,” he said.
“In his current physical condition, he’s not going to help anyone.
“He is missing something in each aspect of the game at the moment.
“His ability to keep on running in midfield was key to his game. He does not add much without that.”
The Red Devils and the Blues are also joined by Arsenal, with the Premier League trio very interested in signing the German World Cup winner, as he will be available for free due to his expiring contract.
Despite his decline in form, Schalke are still favouring the move, with club president Clemens Tonnies revealing that talks were already under way in regards to the potential switch.
“Yes, we’ve had the first few discussions. When he is at full strength, I think Khedira can be a great help to us in the future.”
