Man United and Liverpool’s transfer battle for starlet


Manchester United and Liverpool are set to battle it out for Fulham youngster Patrick Roberts according to the Express.

The 16 year old striker is making a name for himself in the youth leagues of the English game with his goals and assists this season that has alerted the top teams to his talent.

Roberts made his international debut for England under-17’s last year and was on duty for them in midweek when scouts from United and Liverpool were sent to check him out.

The North West pair are keen to buy younger players in the future with the Financial Fair Play tying their hands somewhat in regards to spending big money on foreign talent on a regular basis.

Liverpool have a history of buying young players from smaller English clubs with the likes of Raheem Sterling and Jonjo Shelvey now first team regulars after teenage moves to Anfield.

United have a similar record in the transfer market with Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and even Wilfried Zaha falling into that category.
