Borussia Dortmund’s Ilkay Gundogan is wanted by both Manchester United and Manchester City when the summer transfer window opens, that is according to reports in the Daily Star.
The central midfielder is seen by Louis van Gaal as the long-term replacement to England international Michael Carrick whilst Manuel Pellegrini is potentially looking for midfield options with James Milner out of contract at the end of the season and Yaya Toure continually linked with a move away from the Etihad Stadium.
The Citizens may well have the upper hand on the Red Devils, though, with Jurgen Klopp’s successor Thomas Tuchel reportedly keen on making City striker Edin Dzeko his first signing at the Bundesliga club. Therefore, a potential swap deal could materialise.
Manchester United are also keen on bringing Gundogan’s team-mate Mats Hummels to Old Trafford in the summer, too.
Arsenal have also been credited with interest in the Borussia Dortmund midfielder.
