Manchester United may need to end their chase for Thomas Muller as he is set to sign a new contract with Bayern Munich, Daily Star reports.
The 26-year-old was one of the top transfer targets for manager Louis van Gaal during the previous summer window, with a bid of around £70million said to have been tabled.
However, Bayern rejected all offers as they issued a hands-off warning to United and insisted that the Germany international was not for sale at any price.
According to Bild, it is now believed that the Bundesliga champions are ready to make Muller one of the highest paid players in the league in order to convince him to extend his stay at the Allianz Arena.
Van Gaal is a huge fan of the forward given that he has already worked with the player when he was managing Bayern from 2009-2011.
Muller has been in amazing form for both his club and country since the start of the campaign, scoring a total of 21 goals from 22 appearances so far this term.
