Manchester United have been boosted in the chase for Barcelona star Pedro Rodriguez after Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho revealed the Blues won’t be signing the winger, according to reports from the Daily Mail.
Pedro has been heavily linked with a move away from the Nou Camp in recent weeks following a season in which he failed to find regular first-team football, with Neymar, Luis Suarez, and Lionel Messi ahead of him in the pecking order.
Premier League champions Chelsea were reportedly keen on signing the Spain international this summer, but now it seems Mourinho is more focused on reinforcing his defence rather than adding to his attack.
“I have five wingers, if I lose one maybe I am interested in another but at this moment I have balance and quality and numbers,” Mourinho said.
“I am looking for a defender to finish this balance in our squad and after that we are ready to answer anything that can happen to our players.
“If one of our players in a specific position wants to leave, we agree a deal for a player to leave and we have to answer immediately and bring in somebody else, because at the moment we have balance in the squad and we cannot lose that.”
This therefore leaves the door open for United to make a move with just six weeks remaining in the summer transfer window.
However, it is believed that the Red Devils will need to match the 27-year-old’s £22million release clause to bring him to Old Trafford.
Pedro only started 15 league games for the La Liga champions last season, scoring 11 goals in all competitions.
