Man United boss confirms £36m star will become club’s main striker

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has revealed that he will eventually make Anthony Martial the clubs main striker in the future, Express reports.

The 19-year-old joined for £36million during the summer, with the fee expected to increase to £58million based on his performance as well as goals.

Van Gaal used him as a striker for his first few games, with the player managing to register four goals in four consecutive games.

However, he is now using Martial on the left flank in place of another summer signing, Memphis Depay, who has been dropped by the Dutchman due to his decline in form.

With the France international playing on the wings, club captain Wayne Rooney has been deployed down the middle, but has led his team to three goalless draws in a row.

The manager has now admitted that the former Monaco star is best suited down the middle, but he will still need to further develop if he wants to fill that role.

“I think his best position is the striker’s position but he needs to develop himself still,” he said.

“He is very young but I think it is better he develops in the striker’s position.”
