Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal is ready to drop David de Gea and make Sergio Romero his number-one ahead of their season opener against Tottenham Hotspur, Daily Star reports.
De Gea has been heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford during the summer, with Real Madrid desperate to bring the shot-stopper back to Spain.

However, the two clubs failed to come to an agreement over De Gea’s transfer fee, which has seen the Spain international stuck in Manchester with just one year remaining on his current contract.
This seems to have messed with De Gea’s performances, showcased by a nightmare first half when the Red Devils played Paris Saint-Germain in a preseason friendly.
Now Van Gaal is prepared to replace the 24-year-old with summer signing Romero, with the former Bayern Munich manager set to use the Argentina star in a practice game opposite to De Gea.
United will face Spurs in the first game of the Premier League season on Saturday.
