Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has come out to praise new summer signing Memphis Depay for his displays against Club Brugge, Skysports reports.
The 21-year-old scored two and provided one assist to help his side take a 3-1 lead into the second-leg of their Champions League qualifiers.
United went a goal down in the early stages via an own-goal from Michael Carrick, but Depay quickly brought the scoring level a few minutes later.
He then netted his second late into the first half to make it 2-1 on the night before providing a cross to substitute Marouane Fellaini who headed home in the 94th minute.
Van Gaal admitted that he felt like kissing Depay following his performance and is confident of his ability to replicate his form on a weekly basis.
“I want to kiss him tonight. I’m very happy for him because a player needs that,” he said.
“Hopefully he shall continue to score. I have confidence in him. He showed what he can do tonight. He scored two goals and got the assist for the other.”
The Netherlands international also revealed his happiness for his brace against the Belgium outfits, but was a little disappointed to not have scored a hat-trick.
“I’m happy that I scored – and of course I’m happy that we won – but I must admit I’m a bit disappointed because I could have scored the last two chances and got a hat-trick,” he said.
