Man United boss reveals fitness concerns over two stars following Swansea win

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has revealed that both Ashley Young and Phil Jones were injured during the 2-1 win over Swansea City, Manchester Evening News reports.

Both players were unable to feature the full 90 minutes in the victory over the Swans, a result that ended their run of eight games without a win.

Matteo Darmian was brought on to replace Jones at half-time while Paddy McNair came on to replace Young in the 77th minute.

Van Gaal admitted that Jones suffered the same ankle injury which already saw him miss a host of matches this season while Young was just tired following the recent match schedule.

“(Phil Jones) is injured. It’s more or less the same injury he had last time. Ashley Young has played a lot of matches in a row and he is stiff and had to be changed. It was not voluntary. I changed because I had to change,” he said.

With the latest round of fixtures already coming to an end, United find themselves fifth on the Premier League table as they continue to struggle in their pursuit for a Champions League spot.

They are currently trailing behind fourth place side Tottenham Hotspur by three points, with another nine separating them from leaders Arsenal.
