After failing to land several top targets in the transfer market, Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal is focusing on his “B-List” to sign players before the window closes, Mirror reports.
Van Gaal is disappointed that moves for priority targets Toni Kroos, Mats Hummels, and Arturo Vidal failed to materialize over the summer, and instead must scramble in the coming week to find useful additions to his squad.
The Dutch manager will now alter his buying strategy, focusing on alternatives rather than players guaranteed to make an impact.
The Red Devils have recently completed the signing of Sporting Lisbon star Marcos Rojo in a £16million deal, but the Argentine is also seen as second choice to primary target Thomas Vermaelen.
United are however boosted in their chase for Real Madrid’s Angel di Maria, who Real Madrid have made available after the winger put in a transfer request demanding to leave the Santiago Bernabeu.
Sami Khedira could also emerge as another United target, with the German World Cup winner rejecting the European champions’ latest contract offer.
However Arsenal have been linked with a move for Khedira all summer, and could make a final push for the midfielder after captain Mikel Arteta is set to miss at least two weeks with an ankle injury.
