Manchester United star Wayne Rooney is set to undergo scans on his injured knee, which caused him to miss United’s 2-1 win over Stoke City on Tuesday, Sky Sports reports.
The England international sustained the problem after colliding with the advertising board when playing against Hull City during the weekend, but manager Louis van Gaal claims that Rooney is expected to make a quick return.
The Dutch manager said: “It’s his knee but we have to wait to say anything about him because you never know with a knee.
“My opinion is it’s not so serious but I’m not a doctor. We have to wait for the scan on Wednesday, then we’ll know more. I hope it’s not so serious.”
However summer signing Angel di Maria will be sidelined for the Red Devils’ trip to Southampton on Monday due to a hamstring strain he picked up on Saturday.
“Di Maria is not so serious but he won’t play against Southampton,” Van Gaal stated.
Rooney has been an integral part to Van Gaal’s Man United side this season, scoring 11 goals in 16 appearances.
