Manchester United are closing in on the signature of AC Milan’s Nigel De Jong, who is yet to reach an agreement over a new contract, according to reports from the Daily Star.
The 30-year-old will see his current deal expire at the end of season and wants a new three-year extension with wages of £50,000-a-week.
But Milan are, however, unlikely to agree to his wage demands unless the club can qualify for the Champions League.
The halt in negotiations between the Dutch anchorman and the Serie A club could therefore sway him to leave Italy in the summer.
Louis van Gaal is very keen on his services having worked with him during his time as the manager of the Netherlands national squad.
However, United are not alone in the chase for the midfielder, as Juventus are also considering an offer should the former Manchester City man opt to remain in the Italian top flight.
