Manchester United will be without four of their usual faces for the boxing day clash against Newcastle United with Ander Herrera, Marouane Fellaini, Luke Shaw, and Daley Blind all set to miss the match, Daily Star reports.
In additional to the four players, Louis van Gaal admitted that Chris Smalling is still a doubt and is likely to be left out in order to avoid any unnecessary risk in his bids to return to full fitness.
However, the Red Devils will be boosted by the availability of Angel Di Maria and Radamel Falcao, both of whom are set to start against the Magpies on Friday.
Blind, Shaw, and Fellaini are all close to returning to actions with the latter likely to be fit for the Tottenham Hotspur clash on Sunday while Herrera’s return date is yet to be determined.
Club skipper Wayne Rooney will once again be deployed in central midfield, meaning Falcao is likely to start alongside Robin van Persie up top.
“Wayne is a player who can play in different positions and I like that because I like multi functional players,” Van Gaal said.
“That’s why I can use him as a midfielder, also as a striker and an attacking midfielder.
