Manchester United have been dealt a blow ahead of their clash with Liverpool as Bastian Schweinsteiger is expected to miss out through injury, Express reports.
The 31-year-old damaged his medial collateral ligament during the 1-0 FA Cup win over Sheffield United last weekend and already missed the recent 3-3 draw with Newcastle United.
United looked to have got their scoring touch back against the Magpies with three goals, but were unable to ensure all three points as they were pegged back twice to finish the match with a draw.
Based on the scans for the Germany international, the extent of the damage was deemed not too serious, but he could still be sidelined for the upcoming match against rivals Liverpool at the weekend.
Schweinsteiger has already featured in 17 Premier League games while making another six Champions League appearances, scoring one goal in the process.
He joined from Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich during the summer for an estimate fee of £14million and has become a regular pick for manager Louis van Gaal this term.
