Manchester United has received a transfer blow after top defensive target Diego Godin has ruled out a move to the Premier League by saying he wishes to remain with Atletico Madrid, Metro reports.
The 28-year-old is one of the many defensive candidates Louis van Gaal has been lining up to reinforce his back line with the centre-back having a stand-out year in the previous season for his side as well as the Uruguayan national team.
However, it is likely that Godin will not push for a switch to Old Trafford after revealing that he sees his future with the current side and is not interested in a transfer at the moment.
“At this point, I feel that I’m in the best time of my career and I still see my retirement very far,” he said. “I would like to stay many years here [at Atletico Madrid].
“But it is true that I also have an attraction from my country and at any point in the future I would like to return to Uruguay, to respond to the love they have showed me during this years.
“But just the time will say. It is difficult to know where I will be playing in as many years.”
