Manchester United stars Chris Smalling and Matteo Darmian both picked up injuries during the Champions League defeat to Wolfsburg, Express reports.
The Premier League side failed to qualify for the next round after suffering a 3-2 defeat at the hands of the Bundesliga outfits.
With PSV Eindhoven winning their final game, they overtook United into second place as they now join Wolfsburg in the round of 16.
According to manager Louis van Gaal, Darmian suffered a hamstring problem in the first half while Smalling, who featured the entire match, picked up a groin injury late into the second half.
“Matteo Darmian has a hamstring injury and Smalling probably a groin injury,” he said.
“Smalling could not jump at the moment of the set plays and that goal [Wolfsburg’s third] was also because of that.”
Apart from the pair, Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo, Luke Shaw, Antonio Valencia, Ander Herrera, Morgan Schneiderlin, and Wayne Rooney were all unavailable for selection.
Van Gaal will now have a host of selection problems heading into their domestic clash with Bournemouth this weekend.
The Red Devils will now be playing the the Europa League after only managing to finish third in Group B following the latest round of European fixtures.
