Manchester United are on the verge of signing Ilkay Gundogan from Borussia Dortmund after it is believed that the Bundesliga side want to cash in on him before his contract expires, Express reports.
The 24-year-old central midfielder has been linked with a Premier League switch for quite some time and with Jurgen Klopp’s squad struggling to perform this season, he may finally decide to leave.
Dortmund have seen a recent fall from grace as they are now sitting in 17th place and fighting to avoid relegation with a number of their stars tipped for a departure at the end of the current campaign.
His current deal will end in 2016 with the German side said to be looking to sell him for around £16million, a fee that United is likely to agree upon.
Louis van Gaal can now decide whether he wants to sign him this month or wait until the summer as he may not want to risk acquiring his services so soon after the midfielder only recently returned from a 14-month injury spell.
