Manchester United have been halted in their pursuit of Ilkay Gundogan after Borussia Dortmund are said to be willing to reconsider his future, Daily Star reports.
The 24-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford in the summer along with teammate Mats Hummels, but any advances have been put on hold.
Dortmund will need to decide whether to keep the midfielder and lose him for free next summer or sell him at the end of the campaign, as he only has a little over a year left on his current deal.
But Gundogan is still considering his future options, with club sporting director Michael Zorc admitting that nothing is yet set in stone.
“Gundogan’s situation isn’t straightforward because his contract expires in 2016,” he said.
“There will be a decision soon.”
The revelation by manager Jurgen Klopp that he will be leaving the Bundesliga outfits have alerted several sides hoping to lure a number of key players away from the club.
Apart from Hummels and Gundogan, Marco Reus is also tipped to follow his current boss out of the Westfalenstadion, despite only recently penning a new four-year deal.
