Man United joined by Newcastle in race to sign Eredivisie champion

Newcastle United have joined Manchester United in the race to sign Georginio Wijnaldum from Eredivisie champions PSV Eindhoven, Express reports.

The 24-year-old was tipped to follow former teammate Memphis Depay to Old Trafford, but manager Louis van Gaal is yet to make a move.

Wijnaldum has also attracted interest from Premier League outfit Sunderland, who are keen on adding the midfielder to their squad in bids to avoid another relegation battle.

Russian giants Zenit St Petersburg have also tried to lure the Netherlands international to their side with a £10million bid, but were denied a move after seeing their offer rejected.

He was a key performer in PSV’s title winning campaign this past season, making a total of 44 appearances in all competitions, scoring 18 goals and providing another six assists.

The Dutch ace is valued around the region of £13million and is said to be favouring a switch to the English top flight.
