Man United legend backs struggling winger to become best in the world

Manchester United legend Andrei Kanchelskis has claimed that struggling summer signing Memphis Depay has the ability to become the best winger in the world, according to reports from 888sport.

Depay arrived from PSV Eindhoven in a deal worth £25million last year, but the Netherlands international has failed to settle into his new environment at Old Trafford.

This has seen manager Louis van Gaal drop the 21-year-old in recent matches, with the likes of Jesse Lingard, Anthony Martial, and even Ashley Young now ahead of him in the pecking order.

However, Kanchelskis, who also played on the wings for United during a four-year stint from 1991-1995, is backing Depay to improve on his game and fulfil his potential as one of the world’s best wingers.

“He [Depay] is a very good player,” Kanchelskis said on 888sport.

“He’s a skilful winger with good crossing ability and a great change of pace.

“He has the potential to become the best winger in the world.”

The Red Devils have just come out of an emphatic 3-0 victory over Stoke City this past weekend, and Van Gaal is unlikely to change a line-up that was so successful when they face Chelsea on Sunday.
