Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel believes Louis van Gaal is the right man for the job at Old Trafford, having backed the Dutch coach to win ‘multiple trophies’ with the club, reports the Daily Star.
Van Gaal endured a rocky start to life at Old Trafford, but has since turned things around with back-to-back Premier League wins.
Schmeichel believes the former Barcelona boss has all the credentials to follow Sir Alex Ferguson, but has warned United fans to give the Dutchman time.
He said: “Manchester United will always be my home, part of me.
“Alex Ferguson is not there anymore and the club is going through difficult times but I believe bringing Louis van Gaal was a good move. The new team and new coach just need time, it is not easy to reach that level that Ferguson’s United was at.
“If you can remember, it took Ferguson some time to manage things in his way too and, after that, he ruled for two decades.”
